In 2011, the prestigious music magazine Gramophone featured the Rotterdam Philharmonic Gergiev Festival in its ‘Best events worldwide’ column. Every year the Festival features a fantastic programme that brings the world's best conductors, soloists, orchestras and ensembles to Rotterdam. This benefits the international cultural appeal of the city, something we Rotterdammers can be proud of.

Are you a fan of the Gergiev Festival? Would you like to make a difference? If so, maybe this is the time to become a patron. This is because, thanks in part to your support, special projects can be realised, enabling the Festival to continue developing as the years progress.

Willem van den Berg and Joost Ector:

“'We have been going to the Festival for many years and always enjoy it enormously. That's why we feel it is so important that the Gergiev Festival continues to exist even in times of austerity. This is essential for the city! Nowadays the Festival takes a more compact form - short and powerful, 100% Gergiev … Needless to say, we are keen to make a contribution to it and we hope that more patrons will put their names forward. Fortunately, the tax authorities are cooperating as well....'

Closer to the Festival
It goes without saying that, as a patron, you will be involved closely in the Festival. For example, you will be able to attend rehearsals and meet and greets, at which you can meet the artists in person.

On that occasion you will see, behind the screens, exactly what your donation achieves. You will hear the difference you are making and how the Festival becomes reality, not only in concrete form through the projects that you help to make possible, but also indirectly through the moral support you give. Needless to say, you will have priority in booking passe-partout tickets.

How can you become a patron?
You become a patron by making a donation of at least € 2,500 (in a lump sum or spread over five years).

Tax benefits for donations
Your donation benefits from tax exemptions; indeed, since the introduction of the Dutch Gift and Inheritance Tax you benefit from an extra tax deduction of 25%. If you opt for periodic donations, they are fully tax-deductible. To qualify, you have to have a private donation contract for at least five years. We will of course take care of this for you. A periodic donation of, for example, € 1.000 may cost you as little as € 350 net per year, whereas the Festival will benefit from the full amount!

If you would like to find out more about becoming one of our patrons, please contact Arnaud Toussaint by phone on 010 217 79 21 or by e-mail at He will be happy to answer all your questions. Perhaps you would like to make a donation straight away. Naturally we have no objection to that.
