Scriabin and Stravinsky – rebels of the early 20th century – open the festival. Their revolutionary Poème de l’extase and Sacre caused shockwaves: classical music would never be the same again. A Rotterdam première for Stravinsky’s Funeral Song. Written in remembrance of Rimsky-Korsakov, this recently rediscovered piece symbolises the end of Russian romanticism.
